Ciało zmarłego 19 sierpnia w Berlinie Josepha Hilla zostało w poniedziałek przetransportowane drogą lotniczą na Jamajkę na lotnisko Donald Sangster Airport, Montego Bay, skąd przewieziono je do Madden's Funeral Home w Kingston. O ostatnich chwilach życia Hilla tak mówi jego żona, Pauline:

"He woke me up at 5:am Friday morning and he said that he was not feeling comfortable in his back....I went back to sleep and I woke to hear him praying in the bathroom....but when he left the room, I felt somehow uncomfortable, as if I shouldn't leave him alone....I don't know what made me feel that way, except that I was always very, very protective of Joseph.That's the way we lived,"



"He drove from Amsterdam to Belgium where he had a show on Friday night....when we got to Belgium he said to me I feel a little crimp in my stomach....at the end of the show, Albert (a member of the group) said to me, Joe is not feeling well and I went to him and said what's the matter and he said the crimp is getting worst and asked me to get him some more tea, and I got him the tea. And he said he felt better and he went to sleep....we drove all night from Belgium to Berlin....he said that he was feeling much better, the crimp is gone," recounted Mrs Hill, who has been touring with her husband since 1980.



"However he had planned to take a shower and walk with the tour manager to a hospital across the road from the hotel we were staying..... he asked for his slippers, but while he was stepping down, I saw his knees like they begun to wobble and I said to him why are you walking like that, your knees look weak....come and sit down....so he sat down and I said to him how are you feeling and he said to me I'm feeling dizzy. And he said my mouth is dry.....He said to pass him a bottle of water and I gave it to him and he took two mouth full....and gap twice and that was it.....I started saying 'Joe, Joe' and I said 'Joe answer mi .....they called the emergency and the emergency came and they started attending to him and they try for about 45 minutes and that was it," Pauline Hill told the Observer.

Nabożeństwo ku czci zmarłego i pogrzeb zaplanowano na sobotę 9 września. Odbędzie się ono w Emmanuel Apostolic Church przy Slipe Road w Kingston. Ciało zostanie pochowane w Dovecot Memorial Park, St Catherine.



Dzień wcześniej będzie miał miejsce specjalny koncert poswięcony pamięci Josepha Hilla. Swój udział potwierdzili dotąd Sugar Minott, George Nooks, Pam Hall, Nadine Sutherland, Sly Dunbar, Lovindeer, Tamlins, Bunny Brown, Junior Kelly, Cherry Natural i Lloyd Parks.

Dzisiaj o godzinie 18 czasu miejscowego rozpocznie się koncert poświęcony życiu i twórczości zmarłego. Wezmą w nim udział: Luciano, Anthony B, Bob Andy, Big Youth, U Roy, Jimmy Riley, George Nooks, Tony Rebel, Dean Fraser, Tamlins, Leroy Sibbles, Carlene Davis, Taurus Riley, Josie Wales, Natty King, Lovindeer, Prodigal, Junior Kelly, Bunny Brown, Nadine Sutherland, Sly Dunbar, Peter Lloyd, Lloyd Parkes, Gullibanque, Limey, Boscom X, Mystic Revealers, Grace Thrillers, Pam Hall, Charlie Chaplin, Mighty Diamonds, Toots, Queen Ifrica, Bankie Banx, Etana, Katalyst Crew, Chuck Fender i inni. Ostatni hołd Hillowi będzie można złożyć jutro miedzy godziną 9:00 a 12:00 w Emmanuel Apostolic Church.
